Google Analytics
To install analytical tracking to your website
Step by Step Instructions to installing Google Analytics
1.) Create a Google Analytics Account; click on the “Access Analytics” button
2.) Create a Website Profile for your Website.
A website profile is essentially a set of rules that define the reports that you see. Generally, a website profile corresponds with a domain – you’ll have one profile per domain, so that you can view reports for each domain separately.
3.) After creating the website profile, you will receive a Tracking Number (UA-#). Write the number down, as you will need it for the WordPress Analytics plugin, to work properly.
4.) Install a Google Analytics Plugin. Be sure to install from the WordPress Dashboard! (Dashboard>Plugins>Add New)
5.) “Activate” plugin
6.) Go to Dashboard>Settings>Google Analytics
7.) Configure the Analytics plugin.
- Input the Web Property ID, aka Google tracking number, aka UA #.
- Check the “In the Header” option. (or place “manually” if you feel comfortable doing so.)
- For more control over your Analytics, click on the “show advanced settings” (optional)
- set “tracking internal links as outbound” variables (optional)
- to verify that your analytics is working properly, turn on Debug mode (Be sure to turn off afterwards or it will slow down the tracking features)
- To use the debug feature you will need either:
- Firebug (for Firefox)
- or Firebug Lite (for other browsers)
